Facing your day to day work is not always as easy as flipping your hand, while thriving your professional work ethic, you also need to compel yourself to be a personal development connoisseur just to keep your sanity. Here are 3 key lessons suggested from the book “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D that could be implemented in our daily basis :
- Be Human
Schwartz advises you to treat people as well as you can, whether you’re in a leadership position or all the way at the bottom of the totem pole. At this point we have to be aware that the more other people chit-chat about themselves more than you do, the more they trust you at certain level. So, ask question, be curious, listen, and be human, that’s how you connect with others, and it might help you when you are facing various kind of clients
- Thinking It’s Possible Makes It So
“Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution pays the way to solution.”
I remember when I had a hard time getting some pile of works done in an immediate time, I kept telling myself that I am able to make it done well on time, then wonders and solutions came out of nowhere. I realise at that moment, my state of mind changed gradually from “I can’t do it” to “I know I can do it but I don’t know how” to “I know I can do it and I’ll figure it out how” to “I know how to do it” and finally to “I did it well”. It’s so magical how our brains work depends on our own suggestion, it will immediately goes to find a way to accomplish your mission
- Do More, Not Less (But Take Time to Think)
Maxim said “If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it”
Some real case that we are all might notice that we are always be able to coordinate time and task done with the people who have most on their plate rather than the one who are not occupied with anything. We can learn that being occupied forces you to find ruthless efficiency and prioritization. It doesn’t mean that we need to always be busy all the time, no, but we have to keep our plate filled with “I need to get things done” the second we add more responsibilities in it, and for the record, know your capacity before adding more in it. Thus, if you feel like you are not productive enough, just find something to be added into your plate, so you are not only stretching your responsibility bag, but also develop your soft skill. This could be implemented in your work life as well
